Troubleshooting Media Gateways

Establish the root cause of a Media Gateway outage in just a few seconds with Media Gateway Timeout and Network Connectivity Reports:

  • See the health of the connection between the Media Gateway and its Media Gateway Controller at a UC application level
  • Compare that to the health of the network connecting the two using Ping, a UC independent test
  • Isolate the cause to UC application or network

Where do I find them?

Media Gateway Timeout and Network Connectivity Reports are available in VSM’s Availability Manager module in Reports.

Troubleshooting Media Gateways Example

Track the health of the network connection between each Media Gateway and its Media Gateway Controller. Gain a second, independent view of that health and reachability via the Network Connectivity report. Compare the two reports and isolate in just a few seconds the cause of a Media Gateway outage – application or network? Save time and prevent finger-pointing.  See example below.

Note how the MG Control errors align precisely with Ping test failures. 100% of ping attempts failed at the same time the Media Gateway deregistered. This proves that this issue is network related.
